First Province to Regulate Osteopathy: New Brunswick

Sets powerful precedent for BC to regulate osteopathic practitioners

New Brunswick is the first Canadian province to regulate osteopathic practice. Legislation was passed on June 6, 2025, to officially recognize the profession.

The Association of Osteopaths of New Brunswick (AONB) will immediately become the College of Osteopaths of New Brunswick, responsible for regulating the profession in the province.

This milestone affirms the credibility and integrity of osteopathic practice in New Brunswick and enhances public trust, safety, and access to qualified osteopathic care.

It also sets a powerful precedent for professional associations in other provinces, including BC, that are seeking regulatory status to ensure patients receive treatment from qualified practitioners.

OsteopathyBC is the professional association representing over 180 qualified osteopathic practitioners in BC. All OsteopathyBC members have completed educational programs proven to meet the minimum internationally-recognized World Health Organization’s Benchmarks for Training in Osteopathy and have four years of full-time education or equivalency.

OsteopathyBC is working towards becoming a regulated healthcare profession in BC, believing that regulation is best for public safety as it’s the only way that standards of education and practice can be legally protected.
