Jobs and Locums Advertising
If you wish to post a job or locums advertisement with us, the following are the requirements.
- Advertising for an osteopathic practitioner must include criteria of being an OsteopathyBC Member.
- Job/Locum posting opportunities are located in British Columbia and/or the Yukon Territories.
- All instances of the term "osteopath" must be changed to "Osteopathic Practitioner."
- Organizations/companies posting job opportunities are expected to support OBC members’ compliance requirements for member in good standing status (OBC Bylaws, Standards of Practice, and Code of Ethics). These include not using reserved titles or activities prohibited by law in BC.
- Adhere to current posting rates.
In the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario manual osteopathic practitioners cannot use the title “osteopath”. The title, its derivations, abbreviations and variations are reserved for exclusive use by osteopathic physicians. If the College of Physician and Surgeons in these four provinces discovers an Osteopathic Practitioner using the title “osteopath” the assumption is they are practicing medicine without a license and may prosecute accordingly. Please refer to our members as Osteopathic Practitioners.
In addition, there are no medical colleges of osteopathy in Canada. Any osteopathic physicians currently practicing in Canada are graduates of a U.S. medical osteopathic college. There are very few osteopathic physicians currently practicing in Canada and even fewer that practice osteopathy exclusively because Canadian-based osteopathic physicians can practice as family physicians and be paid by the provincial or territorial publicly funded health care system rather than bill their patients directly.
